Scalp Cleaner.

How many products do you put on your hair daily? Serum, hairspray, leave in conditioner not to mention what the environment does to your hair. Yes, shampooing does lift the products but there is always residue that is left and continually using deep clean shampoos strips the oils from you scalp.

Try using a blob of condition mixed with Epsom salts and gently rub the scalp before shampoo. This will give an effective scalp clean and lift all that residue.

Prime Fifty

Hello,

I have blogged about these vitamins before but FutureYou Cambridge sent me some new ones to try. I must be clear that I was not paid to write this blog so this is very impartial.

I was given the sachets of liquid that I took in the morning which is packed full of:

  • Bio-marine collagen peptides help nurture skin, hair and nail health
  • Includes evening primrose and starflower oils
  • Contains biotin, selenium and zinc

And I noticed the difference in my skin and nails immediately. I am going through the menopause and with that comes a myriad of problems but I felt that taking these supplement was supporting me in ways that I needed.

Prime Fifty are currently at £22.50 but if you subscribe you get an additional 20% off.

Hard Times.

The great Charles Dickens would certainly attest to these being ‘hard times’. With rising energy bills, council tax not to mention petrol prices. But we knew this was coming as a consequence of the Lockdown and the Government expenditure. Fear not my friends, I am here with some tips to ease your through.

Food Banks.

Find your local food bank. They provide free food for the those struggling financially. It’s a lovely way to share your concerns over a cup of coffee and a free lunch. http://www.givefood.org.uk

Change your shopping times.

The yellow sticker will be your best pal. Switch your shopping times to around 19.00 as that’s when they reduce the final reductions. Eg: I bought an organic chicken down from £16.45 to £3.96 last week and got three meals out of it. Sunday is the best day as the trading hours are shorter, aim for 14.30 on a Sunday and find the reduced section.

Makes friends with your local butcher(sorry vegan and veggies!)

Ask you butcher for bones for stock. You can transform any dish with good stock. Buy an ice cube try and freeze the stock. I make soups and risottos with the veg from the food bank. Vegans obviously make stock from veg.

Soak your washing.

After my nightly bath, I put all the dirty washing in the leftover water to soak overnight. It gives the clothes a thorough cleanse and eliminates the need for a long washing cycle, saving on energy bills.

On yer bike.

Get active and save money. I bike everywhere, not only I’m I fitter than ever but biking has transformed my sagging bottom to a pert one. Invest in a second hand bike and save money on petrol.

Make your own beauty products.

The reason I started my website was to encourage people to make their own products from food items near their sell-by-date and to combat food wastage. I use yogurt for face mask and mayonnaise for hair masks. See my website for more recipes.

Never pay for a haircut.

The last time a paid for a haircut was 1986. Sign up to be a hair model. Gumtree advertise daily for hair models. The hair cut is free with a nominal charge for colour.

Product re-branding.

Whenever beauty companies re-brand their products, beauty stores have to clear the stock and consequently sell it for 85% off. I recently bought a high end shampoo from £10.00 to £1.75. Superdrug are currently selling their own brand make-up range for 75% off. Just stroll down the aisle and keep your eyes peeled.

Forage.

Whenever I take a trip to the countryside I take a backpack to forage. Villagers sometimes kindly leave a bag of fruit for anyone to take, so always come prepared and look at: http://www.gallowaywildfoods.com for foraging tips.

Just a few simple changes can make the difference to your life.

Hot Chocolate face mask.

I don’t drink hot chocolate at night as it gives me insomnia but I had a tub of it in my cardboard gathering dust, so I thought I would experiment – as I do – and use it as a beauty product. I had some left over sour cream and honey.

3 tbs of hot chocolate powder

I tbs sour cream

1 tsp of honey

I also added a pinch of turmeric.

I think it was the sour cream in the mix that did it but my skin felt silky soft and my open pores had closed. You could try rubbing it into the skin first then leave it as a mask as I did and that gives an added exfoliation. Or use it as a body exfoliate.

Shampoos for grey hair

There are currently lots of shampoos for grey hair and as I have embraced the ‘grey’ I have been looking into them and bought one myself and I must say it gave varying results.

One gave me a purple tint that reminded of those retro candy necklace sweets the other just dried my hair out – apparently the shampoos can dry the hair out.

I just add some lemon juice to my final rinse and that seems to brighten my hair.

A hairdressers told me never put blonde tints in grey hair as it goes yellow after a while. The reason I know this is my hair did go a shade yellow after having a few blonde highlights. I now have silver highlights that compliment the grey but my hair is turning a lovely shade so I might just let nature take its course and keep rinsing with lemon juice.

Nails.

Have you noticed how nail extensions are so in at the moment, especially those with crystals on, but what damage is this doing to our nails?

Yes, they are very dazzling to the eye and if those of you struggle to grow strong nails, then extensions is the answer but incorporate vitamin D tablets into your diet and don’t over file your nails and you will see the difference. I grow my nails then cut them to shape and file them only once. My nails are complimented on and I am convinced it’s because I don’t constantly file them.

Try Vitamin D and if you’re not intolerant to milk drink a glass a day and don’t file your nails too often and see if you notice a difference.

Face scrub and rain water.

Hello,

With all this rain pouring down on us, don’t forget to pop a small bucket outside to collect that rain and give your hair a final rinse with it. It will soften it and make curls less frizzy.

I’d ran out of my homemade face scrub the other day, so I saw some oranges that were were well past their date and whizzed the skin up into bits and used that with coconut oil. It works a treat. It is gentler than using sugar and coconut oil on the skin that I normally use.

Most food items can be used as a beauty product, think before you consign it to the bin, you’ll be surprised what you can use. Keep in natural.

Organics Hair Salon. Hair Organics

Hello, my good friends,

As you know I never get paid to post anything on my site that I believe in but I must mention this fabulous hairdressers in Notting Hill gate called, Hair Organics.

The attention to detail is what makes this salon stand out from the others. They really listen to your needs and deliver. I went in with frazzled, lifeless hair and came out looking like a goddess, not just the cut but the way they transformed the look of my grey hair and made it classy and edgy. Everyone has complimented me on the hair cut and believe me, that is very rare.

Terry and the team have created a relaxing, hospitable sanctuary and I defy anyone not to leave without feeling wonderful.

The stylists are very skilled and what Terry doesn’t know about hair is not worth knowing… They even give you a little treat bag to take home with you with wonderful products.

Transformation is what they do best and if you’re looking to have just that, then do make an appointment with them.

Address: 3 Ladbroke Road, London, W11 3PA.

Gail’s Bakery Bread

Hello, my good friends,

If you’re like me and bread plays havoc with your digestive system, I have been trying Gail’s bakery bread which you can buy in their own shops or in Waitrose.

It is quite expensive but if you go in at the end the day, Waitrose will reduce it from £3.89 to 89p. I only buy it when it is 89p and I am not getting paid for this blog but it really doesn’t upset my stomach and it might work for you because gluten free bread taste like cardboard, or better still make your own but I do find that this one is a good alternative for homemade bread.
